FAQ
Questions, answered
The short version: it runs locally, needs no Outlook, and produces Bates-numbered, bound PDFs with a load file. The details are below.
Does my email leave my computer?
No. Everything runs locally on your machine — no upload, no cloud account, no third-party server. This is the whole point: privileged and confidential email stays with you.
Do I need Outlook or Office installed?
No. Casebound reads PST, OST, and MSG files directly. Nothing else to install or license.
What files can it open?
PST and OST stores (whole Outlook mailboxes), plus individual MSG and EML files — single files or entire folders.
Can it Bates-number for production?
Yes. Bates numbering is sequential and prefixed (for example ABC000001) across the entire production.
Can it combine everything into one PDF?
Yes. Combine the set into a single bound PDF volume, along with a CSV load file mapping every email to its Bates range, date, from, to, subject, and source.
Will the load file import into my review platform?
Yes. The CSV load file is built to import into eDiscovery platforms such as Relativity and Concordance.
What are the system requirements?
Windows 10 or 11. Casebound uses the Microsoft Edge WebView runtime, which ships with Windows 10/11, and is built on .NET 10.
Is there a command-line version?
Yes. A headless command-line mode is included for scripted and server-side batch jobs.
How is it licensed?
An annual subscription with a per-machine (node-locked) key. Solo covers 1 machine; Team covers up to 10. Billing is handled by Stripe.
What happens if a renewal payment fails?
Your license keeps working for a 14-day grace period while you sort out the payment. After that it deactivates until payment is resolved.
How do I get the app after I buy?
Immediately after checkout you receive your license key and a download link. Install the app, paste in the key, and you are activated.
Can I get a refund?
No refunds are offered. You can cancel your subscription anytime to stop future billing; it remains active until the end of the paid period.
Does it run on Mac or Linux?
Casebound is a Windows desktop application (Windows 10/11). It is not web-based and is not available for macOS or Linux.
Is the output PDF/A?
Casebound outputs standard PDF. PDF/A archival output is on the roadmap, not in the current version.
